High Performance Teaming in Cardiac Care

Long Beach Memorial’s Heart and Vascular Institute is leading the way in minimally invasive procedures, yet like many of it’s peer organizations, struggles with team cohesion. Some of the most experienced and influential voices at the Institute are contractors and don’t have the time or incentives to contribute to robust leadership structures.

Akin in partnership with Arena Labs provided a precision team to strategically delve into the community and quickly immerse ourselves in operating room communications and processes to understand and highlight the most critical points of friction and opportunity.

Expertise in Action.

Arena Lab’s expertise in high performance teaming and technology coupled with Akin’s strategic design and behavioral change processes brought forth advanced insights that set the stage for co-creation of new approaches with Cardiac Care practitioners.

Our collective work culminated in 3 intensive consecutive immersions where all cardiac care functions and disciplines were guided through our design process to create the new vision for cardiac teaming, prototype new processes, and develop new behaviors and communication systems that address areas where cohesion is tested.
